| "Smoking from a water pipe may pose the same health risks as cigarettes, the World Health Organization said Tuesday, adding that there's a need for more research into the link between hookahs and a number of fatal illnesses." this is the opening paragraph of a article i just read off msn.com. the article goes on the describe how the hookah works, and how its more addicting that cigarettes, and you can inhale 100x more smoke in one sitting than in one cigarette, and how its toxins cause heart disease, lung cancer, blah blah blah. now the article itself is not what im venting about. some of the article i actually agree with. yea, you do take in a hell of a lot of smoke. yea, its a little addicting. here's my thing: why do we need research facts? im sad to know that X amount of babies die every day, how many people die of lung cancer a year, or car crashes, or whatever it is. but when you start seeking out research for no good reason other than wanting to pass a ban on something, or make something illegal, thats where i have to say, HELL NO!. now im not saying thats what these people are doing. maybe they are researching for the good of all. but consider this: the Tennessee Legislature is considering passing a ban that prohibits smoking in restaraunts or bars. this ban in similar to the one already passed in florida. people complain of the effects of second hand smoke while around smokers, saying that inhaling the second hand smoke will cause them longterm illness and possibly lung cancer/emphazima. but if you ban smoking in public places/ie. bars/restaraunts/parks,you have taken away a freedom protected in our bill of rights. the last time i checked, we lived in America, a Constitutional Republic, not a Socialistic Democracy, where tobaccoo is not illegal. why do we try to continually regulate people who are not in any way breaking the law? if i choose to light up in a bar, or restaraunt, or park, or outside a building, you also have a choice: do something about it. if you dont like that im smoking, walk to the other room, or go to the other side of the park, or leave the bar, or hell, even ask me politely to either stop smoking or move away a bit. but dont go hide behind facts and research because thats what activists want you to believe. if you dont get offended easily, then please dont continue reading, bc you will just get angry at me and thats not what i intend to do in this rant. activist groups are one of the biggest problems in america, and they are one of the reason why so much biased research goes on. gays, blacks, tree huggers, women, etc..they all want to have more than other people have, and you cross them, and you get sued or fired, or worse. and this all started with women. if we had never given them the right to vote, we wouldnt have any of these problems. they demanded equal rights, and slowly but surely, everyone else has to. thats why i guy can make a joke on the radio and CNN picks it up and rights groups get involved and jesse jackson gets involved and the guy gets fired...for making a joke!!!! jesus christ! what happened to the days of freedom of speech? yea, that day is gone. you cant offend anyone, you cant say "offensive" terms, like indian. (?!?!). this is getting ridiculous and its got to stop.
sorry, i jumped around a lot. just needed to get some stuff of my mind. |
